A poem as a celebration of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day 2019

In endless search of normal RBCs
but the child always ends with sickle cells,
episodes of chest pain and infinite emergencies
infection, pain and swelling, plus confusions,
those jargons hemolytic anemia and vaso-occlusions
treated with infusions and a lot of transfusions,
childhood passes but SCD becomes part of the life
but inability to locate good adult care, puts that life into knife.
